Parallel execution of distributed SVM using MPI (CoDLib)

That is the title of our (me, supervisor and co-supervisor) conference paper. Alhamdulillah ada jugak nama dalam IEEE Xplore. This paper has been presented in 2011 ICIMu International Conference. The journey is not easy. We took months to write it… and the conference fees is not cheap. Thank Allah all of the efforts (fees, review, ‘add-some-peppers’) in publishing this paper is mainly made by my supervisor and co-supervisor. Yes, thanks also to one of my loyal proof-read-friend, Nur Syahinaz. Her english (or anglais – French) is great. Stay loyal my dear. A lot more papers are coming.

Okay. What this paper is all about?

Support Vector Machine (SVM) is an efficient data mining approach for data classification. However, SVM algorithm requires very large memory requirement and computational time to deal with very large dataset. To reduce the computational time during the process of training the SVM, a combination of distributed and parallel computing method, CoDLib have been proposed. Instead of using a single machine for parallel computing, multiple machines in a cluster are used. Message Passing Interface (MPI) is used in the communication between machines in the cluster. The original dataset is split and distributed to the respective machines. Experiments results shows a great speed up on the training of the MNIST dataset where training time has been significantly reduced compared with standard LIBSVM without affecting the quality of the SVM.

Too technical? Let me explain in a simpler way.

There is an approach in data classification – SVM. But this method performs quite slow when dealing with large number of input (dataset). Due to that, we have proposed a combination of distributed and parallel computing method – CoDLib. By using this method, we used a cluster – consists of multiple computers. In the end, the training time taken the results give huge speed up compare to the original sequential program.

I am happy. Really happy. and of course my family will so proud of me. And this makes me nak write more conference paper in the future. I hope Allah will gives me a great team again.

Video di atas terjadi selepas beberapa bulan mereka berjaya menjatuhkan kerajaan pemerintah sebelum ni demi mencari keadilan dan keamanan. Adilkah yang terjadi? Berjayakah mengecapi keamanan tersebut selepas berbulan-bulan kerajaan lama jatuh? Bagaimana dengan makanan dan ekonomi?

Mereka pernah menjadi boneka barat. Jadi kita harus ambil ikhtibar supaya tidak menjadi boneka seperti mereka walaupun penghasut kita bukan dari barat.

Wahai Prof., Dr., executive, mahasiswa/i, pakcik, makcik, dan adik-adik, fikirlah sebelum bertindak. Gunalah saluran yang betul.

Kita hidup dengan aman dan sejahtera dah berpuluh tahun lamanya. Sehingga mungkin ada yang terlupa mengenai keperitan hidup menderita dan dalam tidak aman. Warga yang lahir selepas tahun yang berlakunya Peristiwa 13 Mei tidak merasa perit hidup mcm tu. Takkan baru nak rasa sakit baru nak mencari semula keamanan dan kebebasan tersebut?

Sedih dan risau. Kita berkongsi negara yang sangat kecil ni. Jika masing2 xleh nak tolerate dan nak ikut angin masing2... angin yang 'Diatas' kita mungkin terlupa. Jangan sampai kita menjadi kufur nikmat dengan hanya berkiblatkan keinginan dan hawa nafsu - bala besar menanti. Kemurkaan-Nya yang digeruni.

2012 bakal menjelma beberapa jam lagi (kalau masa Hari Pembalasan baru 2 hari beberapa minit je kot) - okay.. I am not trying to scared you. Anyway... everyone is mentioning about azam lah, what happened lah... So I wanna list out my wishlist for 2012!

1. Pass Viva and master with flying colors. Dear examiners, please be nice to me! I have been waiting for so long.
2. Graduate Master (I guess with my former students) :P
3. Able to find a renter for my father's land and premis for any kind of businesses (warehouse, restaurant, Kedai 1Malaysia? owh! or Sports Toto?! Okay at this part, I am just just joking). Anyone interested? The location is in Sungai Petani anyway. Drop me your contact details.
4. Getting myself an electronic sewing machine (termasuk jahit tepi) - not too big not too small
5. Expanding my shawl (SHOL) business by improving the design (this is the reason I want to get the Num. 4)
6. I hope to find a job so that I can help myself with Num. 7
7. I hope I will be able to have a chance to further my study in the local university. Well... registration needs  $$$$. I guess I want to go deeply into IT Management field... if possible.

Pengalaman Hidup Bertambah: Baru tau susu itu mahal

Aiceh! Tajuk macam berfalsafah sangat pulak. Sebenarnya ni ha.... this morning, I went shopping dengan mak. Pagi-pagi lagi dah g Tesco (Tesco jela yang bukak kol 8 kan). Niat di hati nak beli kertas A4. Since yang pergi hanya perempuan, sedar tak sedar dah sejam lebih dalam sana. Kitorg hanya sedar lama berjalan sebab lapar~~~. Apa yang we all buat selama tu? Macam biasa la pegi tempat2 yang ada barang yang di cari. Owh, kalau niat di hati nak beli sayur pagi-pagi dengan tenang... TAK DIGALAKKAN. sebab ramai peniaga2 macam tengah ada sale kat sayur2 tu. They just grab the plastic bag - masuk2 barang - check berat - queue collect sticker harga. Trolley2 dorg penuh dengan beg plastic sayur (Bila mau siap???).

We went round round and round, tengah cari susu Omega (owh sangat mudah terpengaruh dengan iklan), tiba-tiba 'sesat' di kawasan susu baby and utk ibu2. Sangat terkejut. Harga untuk susu2 tersebut for me agak mahal la. Ada yang tin kecik je, tp RM80 lebih. Mungkin more calcium and zat2 lain. Tak kesah la yang tu, but apa yg nak di highlight here, kos hidup sekarang tak murah. Even kos susu yang sangat diperlukan oleh ibu dan baby pon agak tinggi.

So kids, do respect your mum and dad and stop wasting/requesting money on things that you don't really need. Anyone yang nak kahwin pon sama. Prepare your financial very well. Tu baru cakap pasal susu, belum lagi medical checkup, hospital, and kelengkapan hidup yang lain.

Don't get me wrong here. I just nak share the things that I don't really bother before this but I just knew the fact on this morning. My mum never tell me about it - well, every parents will not ungkit apa yang dia dah bagi or korbankan untuk anak2, terutama waktu kecil. Sebab tu dalam doa, kita selalu sebut,

"Ya Allah, kasihanilah ibu bapa ku seperti mana mereka mengasihani ku sewaktu kecil lagi"

Master or Messter with UNITEN?

My masters is still hanging. It seems very hard for them to decide my final presentation date. They love me so much lettew sebab tu la they hardly letting me go. Kan.. kan... KAN???

My friends, neighbors, parents' friends, grandpa keep on asking us, "Tak habis lagi ka dia tu?" "Tak dapat kerja lagi ka?" "Kerja mana dah sekarang?" "Tak mintak mana-mana ka?" "Tak lepas la tu... heboh ja cerita buat master" "Anak I dah kerja situsini". I can just buat bodoh and ignoring them - which I did! But lama-lama, terluka la jugak hati ni kan. OR... I should take it as "They are just too care".. blurghhh!

Dear all, regarding my masters,

I am still an official UNITEN's Post-graduate student.

I am waiting for UNITEN to decide my final presentation (viva)'s date. I have done my part. It is just their procedures take so long. This is nothing to do with I tak pass ke tak dapat kerja ke apa. My supervisor and co-supervisor, both are PhD holder (bukan calang-calang orang) - my supervisor got 2 certs; MY and FR. They are happy and satisfied with my works. On the other hand, after all this while I DID NOT APPLIED for any job. I am doing something else - I prefer not to share with you guyz yet. I hope this makes things clear. But I admit, I have just seriously started looking for a job - since the last 2 days.

I believe whatever is happening adalah dengan izin Allah S.W.T. Ada hikmah mungkin presentation ni lambat terjadi. Aku dah berusaha dan aku sudah redha. Cuma apa yang membuat aku menulis entry kali ini adalah untuk menerangkan situasi yg terjadi supaya doubt orang sekeliling terjawab mengenai status jobless ku sekarang ni... bukan untuk memburukkan sesiapa termasuk pihak university.

Another series of not so well days

Why?
Gigi bongsu kiri sedang menyambung pertumbuhannya. owh sakitnya gusi sedang dikoyakkan dan mengecut. (sila bayangkan jika anda masih kanak2 riang tak cukup gigi lg. untuk yang dah cukup gigi dan mungkin dah terkurang, sila imbas kembali kenangan anda dahulu)

selang seminggu tumbuh gigi bongsu... perghhhh! sebelum ni 3 bulan sekali ke... baru dia muncul. THis time tak demam tapi pipi rasa kdg2 sakit kadang2 bengkak. but last night was quite hard to fall asleep. :( i even can feel every gigi on my left sedang di tolak dan dikejapkan jarak2 dorg.

Alamak... ckp pasal gigi, baru tringat tak minum susu Anlene lg. Off for now. Bubye.

Saya Dah Tak Demam

Alhamdulillah.
Dah takde hibernation...
Dah takde sakit kepala sampai berguling-guling...
Dah takde terjaga setiap jam... (Cuma malam tadi terjaga kol 3.33 am- Weird)

Mungkin kebetulan atau apa... sambungan demam tempoh hari, gigi bongsu pulak nak tumbuh. Last 2 days gigi kiri bawah. Now gigi kiri atas pulok. Bila bersujud... terasa nak luruh pipi sebelah kiri ni. You all pun pernah rasa kan pengalaman gigi bongsu nak tumbuh. Dia tumbuh sikit-sikit selang 2-3 bulan. Kalau tumbuh skali gus... mau koma terus. Ni pon kadang2 terasa gigi geraham kat tengah ni tersepit. But don't worry, saiz gusi muat. :)

Sakit kepala kadang-kadang je ada. Mungkin sebab tarikan urat2 gusi ni kot.
Sesema pulak... makin pulih.
Batuk... malam2 still makan ubat batuk. =P~ sedappppp

Doli Koey Teow Goreng Taiping

Last few weeks, my father’s friend has invited us to dine here. The specialty of this restaurant is their fried ‘Koey Teow’ – Superb sedap!

 

The place is quite cozy and equipped with air-conditioner. Thank Allah that night tak ramai sangat. Maybe sebab hujan kot.

Here is their menu. Harga yang ditawarkan adalah sangat berpatutan.

Sangat sedap and sangat kaya dengan udang dan kerang. I love it so much sebab every bites for sure akan ada udang or kerang.

The curry is yummy. They are also provide this meal together with sambal. So if you prefer lebih pedas, you may add it into your curry.

 

So, for those yang nak datang ke Doli, waktu perniagaan adalah 12.00pm – 11.00pm. Ia dibuka setiap hari kecuali Jumaat.
Eh... sama lak ngan tulisan kat atas tu.

Lokasi? Ia terletak berdekatan dengan Taman Tasik Taiping. Alaaa tak berapa ingat sangat sebab pegi waktu malam and hujan. But I know this place sangat dekat ngan tasik tu.

Walau apa pun, 3 games in a week siyesly meletihkan. You guys did a good job but some careless mistakes was there. Barisan pertahanan yang sebelum ni sangat kukuh tiba2 goyang pada saat akhir. NVM, uols pun human jugak. Make sure jangan ulang kesilapan yg sama k.

Thank Allah masa dah nak sampai ke tempat kenduri tu, ada sebuah kereta keluar dr depan kedai perabot. Boleh park kat situ.

That day was the second time berpeluang drive ke area Kota Kuala Muda, Kedah. Zawani (groom) is my former classmate (SMK Dato’ Onn Butterworth). Guess what, both of us were born on 11th October; we are sharing our birth date! :)

Anyway, me and mak arrived at 1PM.

Finally sampai pun…

When was the last time we meet? I guess last time jumpa masa exam SPM. Gosh… lama giler. How many years dah eh? 23 minus 16… errrr.

Saya Demam

Uhuk2… terbatuk pulak.
Hello all,
Hari ni dah hari keempat condition badan ni tak berapa sihat. Sekarang pun menulis sambil membungkuskan diri dengan comforter. Let me tell you apa dah jadi…

Hari Jumaat – paip water filer dah pecah selama beberapa hari. Dah beberapa hari cari paip putih tu tapi keputusan semua negative. Kitorg hanya bergantung kepada air bekalan yang dah ditapis… akhirnya terpaksa beli mineral water jugak. Disebabkan ini, hari jumaat tu hanya minum 1.5L je air putih.

Hari Sabtu – Ayah dah jumpe paip yg dicari. Me n mak pon teringat cartridge filter dah lama tak tukar. We went to the shop and gets it. Heaven but broke. >.< Tukar tukar angkat, pulas pulas. bole la berbotol2 minum air + the flow sangat laju.

Hari Ahad – Pagi. Dah mula rasa tekak and perut tak selesa. Masa mandi (belom sarapan) dah muntah. Ya Allah, sakitnya. Pagi tu balik kg. Beli la siap2 Strepsils Extra Strong. Kebas jap then jd lg. Minum 100Plus lak. Masa kat kampung, tido je. Jaga2 dah berpeluh. Huh… lega la ingat. Owh ahad tu kan ada bola – Harimau Muda vs. Garuda. Layan. Tension tension tension sampai last penalty goal tu. After that terus sakit kepala and demam.

Hari Isnin – Demam berterusan dan tanda2 sesema mula muncul. I went out to get ubat sesema (Clarinase) tp tak ada.. yg ada ubat yang bekas dia besar gedabak ni (Carinox) @_@ nasib baik bekas je besar. Ubatnya mcm tube biasa. Effect dia lebey kurang macam Clarinase la jugak. But Clarinase work better for me.

Hari Selasa - Pagi tu ayah beli nasi. I eat it then puke. :(( Sesema macam nak ok dah. Petang tu I went out to somewhere. The pressure is controlling me. I feel like my head was going to explode.


Hari Rabu – Today dah tak berani nak take any kind of heavy foods untuk breakfast. Last night’s sleep tak lah nyenyak sgt. Terjaga setiap JAM. Maybe sebab hidung tersumbat kot. I don’t know! So pagi tadi pegi klinik. Doctor cakap hampir demam. dapatlah 3 bungkus ubat ni… (eh bunyi mcm byk la pulak bungkus2 nih). Lunch baru makan nasi.

Ubat batuk, Paracetamol, Ubat sesema yang ngantuk, strepsils, ubat sesema yang tak ngantuk

Malam ni ada football game; Malaysia vs. Syria. Dah tak berani nak tengok dah. Good luck Harimau Muda… AUMMMMM!

Guess what… pada setiap hari yang disebutkan di atas, my days dipenuhi dengan driving ke sana sini (until Perak and Kedah) and sekitar Pulau Pinang. Every time went out tu tak rasa demam (Alhamdulillah). Tapi sampai2 je rumah, mcm phone habis battery. *Weak*

Update:
I went to a few pharmacies, Clarinase memang dah tak ada stock. They also don't know why. :(

Assalamualaikum
